was held this past Saturday, the eighth edition of the Open Galdakao Technique Urreta organized by the CD in collaboration with the City of Galdakao well as the Basque Federation of taekwondo, and Caixa, Caja Catalunya.
The event brought together over 250 athletes (rec ord share) distributed among adults (almost 40) and children (over 200) came from Bizkaia, Alava, Navarra, Cantabria, Burgos, Leon, the Balearic Islands and Barcelona.
About 9:30 in the morning began to compete in the adult category which included several national and even global medalists. The medals were well distributed making our local representative authority Leire Doncel clinch the gold medal in the junior women's category ahead of the two representatives of the selection of Navarre. In addition Leire achieved bronze in pairs with Jose Antonio Moreno.
At the end of the trophy adult athletes began to compete children divided into 4 mat. This takes the cake selection Navarre getting gold medals as well. Regarding the local athletes can be destacar la actuación de Maite Uriarte del club Urreta consiguiendo la medalla de plata en la categoría alevín femenina, la de Adrian González que consiguió un meritorio 7º puesto en benjamín masculino donde participaban 49 deportistas y la de Aketza Uranga metiéndose en la ronda final ante el campeón de España.
La entrega de trofeos fue realizada por Oliva Sota (presidenta del C.D. Urreta), Jon Garnika (Director técnico del C.D. Urreta) y Juan Medina (presidente de la federación navarra de taekwondo).
La valoración final del evento es muy satisfactoria a todos los niveles. Se consiguió un nuevo record de participación con deportistas de muy distintos lugares y las gradas were almost full during the entire championship.
